The Allan Hancock College Children's Center Lab services as a demonstration site for the Outdoor Classroom Project's (OCP) efforts in Northern Santa Barbara County. Through support from the Orfalea Foundation, OCP focuses on outdoor education for early childhood development and helps some childcare centers in the county install safe and stimulating play yards for infants to preschoolers. Hancock's early childhood studies students work at the day care program alongside teachers, learning the trade while some kids learn how to walk.
