Partners managing the Guadalupe-Nipomo National Wildlife Refuge started an experiment testing the efficacy of an herbicide—sprayed aerially with a helicopter—to manage veldt grass, a prolific invasive species. The dune scrub habitat is home to 144 imperiled plant and animal species, which may be adversely impacted by the continued spread of veldt grass.
